Illustrated catalog and price list for the company of manufacturers of wire rope & wire, electrical conductors of all kinds, which built the first steel-wire suspension bridge ever constructed, the Brooklyn Bridge. Australian content includes a Roebling Cableway in Melbourne designed to move materials from ships in the harbor to the dock; a cable way erected by Roebling for the Austral-Otis Elevator and Engineering Company. This Cableway in Melbourne is illustrated with a full page plate. Five Roebling Cableways were also used at the Tilly Foster Mine (an iron mine in Putnam County New York), when 500,000 tons of rock and debris had to hauled out of the largest man made open pit mine of its time (p49). The catalog illustrated with 6 full page wood blocks depicting the operations Roebling had completed.John Augustus Roebling (1806 - 1869) was a German-born American civil engineer who designed and built wire rope suspension bridges, in particular the Brooklyn Bridge. When he proposed building the Bridge, he predicted that it would be "the greatest engineering work of the continent and of the age." Roebling died as the result of an injury, and the bridge was completed by Roebling's oldest son in 1883 with the assistance of Emily Warren Roebling.Illustrated stiff paper wrappers, with Brooklyn Bridge tower at front wrapper.
