New York: Harper and Brothers, 1940. Very Good/Good. First edition. Red cloth as issued (the 1966 re-issue in blue cloth is often mistaken for the first edition). A bit spine cocked, and some foxing on the endpapers, very good in good only dustwrapper sunned on the spoine and with several nicks and tears. Inscribed by the author: "Inscribed to Ralph Sargent and Louise, 1940 with thanks from their guest of November 13, 1958. Glenway W." The inscription is a trifle cryptic, we assume the book was inscribed in 1958, but he was referring to the mpublishing date of the book (1940). A splendid, in many ways perfect little novel that has recently undergone a revival, and which has always been uncommon. (Inventory #: 408141)
