by Stillingfleet, Edward, 1635-1699
London: R. Knaplock, J. Knapton, D. Midwinter, [and several others], 1724. 8th ed. Hardcover. Fair. 2 vols. in 1. frontis (portrait), [14 preliminary leaves including the general title leaf and the title leaf for the first work], 386, [2 leaves including title leaf for second work], 116p. plus a leaf listing "Books printed for and sold by Henry and George Mortlock..."). Old leather with later rebacking. 32cm. Binding sound but worn with cover edges heavily rubbed and now quite rounded at corners. Contents also generally sound although moderately browned and soiled and having several outer leaves at both ends rather ragged with chips, creases, tears, staining, etc. The separate title-page for both parts are differently titled, identify one or both Mortlocks as publisher, and are both dated 1709. The arrangement and purpose of this combination escapes us but it is complete as published. Stillingfleet was an Anglican theologian and churchman, serving as Bishop of Worcester in his final decade.
