Ralph J. Gleason (1917 - 1975) was one of the greatest American Jazz and Pop Music critics. He was a co-founder of Rolling Stone magazine, as well as co-founder of the Monterey Jazz Festival. He was the leading critical supporter of the emergence of the San Francisco psychedelic rock music in the 1960s. He knew and interviewed almost all the major figures of jazz as well as perceptively recognizing early the merits of Bob Dylan, Hank Williams, Elvis Presley, Fats Domino, etc. Gleason’s contribution to American music is historic and vast.
