Orono, ME: Orono Methodist Church. Very Good. 1937. Stiff Card Wrappers. 81 pages; Clean and tight in original stiff wrappers printed in red with image of a fireplace and mantel on front cover and a woman baking bread on rear cover (ad for Bangor Hydro Store). Includes two colour illustrations of cakes on coated paper. One short closed tear at bottom of rear cover, some very light toning to covers. Quite a nice example of this scarce Maine cookbook from the 1930s. A majority of recipes are for desserts, including many fabulous cake recipes (Ginger Upside-down Cake, Japanese Skillet Cake, Mahogany Chocolate Cake, etc.); Candies (Caramels, Apricots Glaces, Fudge, Divinity...); Puddings (Pettijeohn, Edgewood Indian Pudding ...); Cookies (Swedish Kingles, Brambles, Hermits, Vinegar Snaps...); Pies (Rhubarb Custard, Squash Pie, Lemon Sponge ...) ; Meat Souffle, Liver Hash, Scalloped Celery and Tomatoes, Beets with Sour Sauce, etc. ; Experience the pleasure of reading and appreciating this actual printed item. It has its own physical history that imbues it with a character lacking in ephemeral electronic renderings. . (Inventory #: 39169)
