Resolutions dated 10 February 1847 that the Rhode Island general assembly wants to enact a harsher tariff, does not support slavery in new territories and hopes for "gradual extinguishment whenever public sentiment will permit it," and wishes for peace with Mexico as quickly as possible as it is "a contest waged to no valuable end."
