by [Saint Domingue]
[Cap Français, Saint Domingue: Chez G. Decombaz et Compagni, 1792. Broadsheet, 10 1/4 x 8 1/4 inches. Quarto. A couple of paper weaknesses in the lower margin, otherwise a fine copy. Untrimmed. A letter dated Jan. 24, 1792 from the French commissioners in Saint Domingue, Ignace- Frédéric de Mirbeck and Roume de St. Laurent, to the Governor General of the colony, Philibert François Rouxel de Blanchelande. They rescind an order to halt the pursuit of two rebel slave leaders, Jean-François Papillon and Georges Biassou, which had been promulgated while negotiations were attempted. The new order to rejoin the hunt signalled a shift in French attempts to end the insurrection. "Dans cet état des choses, nous vous déclarons, Monsieur le Général, que nous avons délibéré que la suspension doit être levée: nous vous réquerons de donner, en conséquence, les ordres que vous jugerez necessaires." A rare St. Domingue imprint, not recorded in OCLC or the FRENCH UNION CATALOG. (Inventory #: WRCAM51785)
