by (Goldsmith, Oliver?)
Wilmington, Delaware: Peter Brynberg, 1796. Hardcover. Good. 12mo. Approximately 2½ by 4 inches. 127pp. Original leather spine, paper over boards. Authorship is unknown, but usually attributed to Oliver Goldsmith. This copy lacks the first leaf, containing the frontispiece, and so commences with the title page. There are tears in the bottom corners of 2 leaves with some loss of text; one leaf has a closed tear; another has a small burn hole. A stain along the top runs from about p. 92 to the end. The paper has perished on the board edges, and there is evidence of old glue on the spine. Still a presentable copy in spite of faults, and a rare edition. Less than 6 other copies have been located. Old typewritten notes by Wilbur Smith are laid in. Evans, 32257; Welsh 463.7; Rosenbach 212.
