Kaleidoskop der Moderne: Chagall, Miro, Picasso und die Avantgarde
by Uhl, Katharina et al.
Wien (Vienna): Verlag für Moderne Kunst, 2015. Hardcover. VG. Brown and gold-decorated boards, fuchsia and orange banded translucent titled dust jacket, 304 pp., many color & BW illus. Text is in German. Issued in conjunction with a 2015 exhibition of modern and avant-garde art, all emanating from artists who once posed for photographer Eddy Novarro (ca.1925-2003). He knew such artists as Chagall, Miró, Picasso, Giacometti, Lichtenstein, Rothko and Fontana. They all stood in front of his camera and gave him some of their artwork as tokens of friendship. This created a unique collection of drawings, paintings and sculptures of classical modernism through abstract expressionism and into Pop Art. Here we see the work of 123 artists of the day, many juxtaposed against a photograph taken by Novarro. With six thematic and illustrated essays, brief artist bios, and much to see and consider. Nice!
