1955 - 1965. A group of 22 silver gelatin photographs, each with a paper interleaf with printed captions in Russian. The images are 6 1/4 x 8 1/4 inches. Green cloth with white title; white lettering on cover starting to fade. Fine photographs of the town of Bratsk and the construction of this major hydroelectric dam. The plans were approved in 1954 and work commenced. In 1955 Bratsk was converted from a workers settlement into a city. By 1961 the Bratsk Reservoir started filling, becoming the largest artificial lake of that time. Work was completed in 1965, including a railway track over the dam. The images show the village, the tent city for workers, the building of a break water, dam consturction, the running of power lines, and the interior of the dam. (Inventory #: 3949)
