1919. [1 of 25 copies] London: Printed for Joseph Conrad, Orlestone | By Richard Clay and Sons, Ltd., 1919. Original dark red wrappers. First Edition, being one of 25 numbered copies, of which this is No. 8. This piece had originally appeared in the 16 June 1904 issue of Speaker, and would later be collected in NOTES ON LIFE & LETTERS. It was the thirteenth of the twenty very-limited-issue Conrad productions by Thomas J. Wise. (These instant-collectibles were actually money-making efforts by the perennially-short-of-cash Conrad.) It is not to be confused with another of these Conrad/Wise pieces, titled ANATOLE FRANCE "L'Ile des Pingouins."~This is a fine copy. Cagle A41. Housed in a morocco-backed folding case.
