Original 3/4 burgundy morocco over printed paper covered boards, with black lettering to front cover. String ties. Splendid collection of 20 mounted albumen prints showing the buildings which won the Belgian architecture prize between 1872 and 1876. Each of the winning building is located in Brussels' new boulevards. The architecture prize was intended to encourage the construction of 'Haussmanian' buildings* in the center of the Belgian capital. The architects mentioned are H. Beyaert; E. Janlet; A. Vanderheggen; Dekeyser; E. Flanneau; F. Laureys; Almain de Hase; H. Maquet; F. Abeels; Samyn; G. Bordiaux; Verdussen; Pauwels; van Autgaerden; Olive; E. Hendrickx; and J. Hanicq.The size of the albumen prints varies from 10 1/2 x 6 1/4" to 10 1/4 x 8". Each photograph is mounted onto a captioned cardstock.Moderate foxing and rubbing along edges of portfolio. Some foxing to title and list of plates. Sporadic and minor foxing along margin of cardstocks (not affecting the photographs). Title and captions in French. Portfolio in overall good, interior in good to very good, albumen prints in very good condition. * Baron Georges-Eugène Haussmann's rebuilding of central Paris under Napoleon III was the most comprehensive and ambitious attempt in any European city to create an administrative quarter for the regime, along with commercial and bourgeois residential districts - a project that was only completed under the Third Republic. Haussmann's Paris served as a model for numerous urban reconstructions complete with new buildings for the following cities: Brussels, Mexico-City, Lima, Havana, Asuncion, Bahia, and Buenos Aires.
