Upper margin of introductory text leaf hand-signed by Czech illustrator and painter, Hanuš Bohman (1903-1980).Published in the aftermath of the liberation of Prague, this portfolio contains twelve incisive political caricatures mocking Adolf Hitler and other Nazi bonzes (Hermann Goering, Josef Goebbels, Heinrich Himmler, Reinhardt Heydrich, Karl Hermann Frank, Dr. Ley, and Rommel), as well as Mussolini, Hiro-Hito, and Czech and Slovak collaborators during the Protectorate (Emanuel Moravec, and Vojtech Tuka).Each of the 12 plates is numbered, measures 13 3/8 x 9 3/4", with image size varying from 10 1/4 x 7 7/8" to 11 3/8 x 8". The plates are mostly in black and white, with some highlighted in red to symbolize destruction (Goering "admiring" his Luftwaffe bombing a city), blood (Himmler with his arms, axe and apron drenched in blood; SS Karl Hermann Frank adorned with demon's wings, stepping into a river of blood originating from the gigantic and sinister initials: S. S.), a flag (Hiro Hito standing before the Japanese Empire flag), and conquest (Rommel is seen trying to grap Africa after having conquered most of Europe). The plates' captions feature on the front cover of the portfolio.Moderate age-toning and rubbing to portfolio. Text leaf slightly foxed. Text and captions in Czeck.
