The drawings in this exhibit were culled from 850 wash drawings in the collection of The American National Insurance Company. The drawings can be characterized as romantic and moralizing visualizations of the American past. Beale was also a frequent contributor to Harper's Weekly, Frank Leslie's Weekly, and the Daily Graphic. With an essay by Dale Roylance.
