Lynchburg: R. H. Glass & Co, 1863. First Edition. Newspaper. Good. Approx. 18" x 12" newspaper. 2 pages. Paper has been folded 3 times resulting in minimal loss along a vertical crease. Light edge wear and toning to paper. Faint previous owner's name top edge of front page. Contents of this Confederate newspaper include Civil War telegraphic news from Virginia, Knoxville, Battle of Lookout Mountain, and Charleston. Several printed advertisements for Confederate almanacs, private auctions, houses for rent and sale, rewards, sale of land, need for overseer's, rags wanted, engine and factory fixtures, etc. Paper also has an advertisement for sale of "Negroes" and for collection of Confederate taxes. One public auction advertisement placed by Drury Wood, Special Commissioner, calls for the sale of "Valuable Real Estate in the Town of Charlottesville and Five Valuable Slaves." This "property", once held by the deceased Stephen R. Sullivan, provides names for the Slaves..."viz: A Man and A Woman and her three children named Eliza, Jeff, and Davis, and a woman named Martha.
