Lausanne, Switzerland: Edita S.A.. Good. (c.1960). English edition. Hardcover. (dark blue paper-covered boards with white lettering on front cover and spine; no dust jacket) [moderate wear to corners and edges of boards, some scuffing to covers, faint musty odor; NOTE that this book had apparently absorbed some moisture at one time, with a result that a few pages had stuck together, and suffered some surface damage (pictorial, not text) when they were peeled apart]. (B&W/color photos, diagrams, charts, ads, etc.) A thorough review of all things automotive during 1960, divided between general matters (including automobile design and manufacturing) and a review of the year's major races and rallies: the Grand Prix (in Monaco, Belgium, the U.K., Italy, etc.), the Indianapolis 500, etc. Some of the more interesting articles include: "The Necessary Evil" (about the piston engine, and how it can be made to "disappear"); an historical survey of the Renault; "Railways Serve the Motorist"; "The Trends of the U.S. Auto Industry"; and "Dreams Fade -- What is the Purpose of Dream Cars?" One particularly interesting feature presents the results of the publication's first "Automobile Year Coachwork Competition." Profusely illustrated throughout, the book contains numerous photographs and technical specifications for cars made in the U.S., Great Britain, Italy, Germany, Japan, Sweden, and elsewhere; included is a double-page fold-out drawing of a Ferrari Formula 2 car. .
