A vivid description of the Battle of Waterloo originally published as a part of Les Misérables by Victor Hugo (1802–85), here in a Limited Editions Club edition signed by Middleton and limited to 1600 copies, of which this is no. 1063.
Hugo's work is contextualized with an introduction by Drew Middleton (1913–90), Military Correspondent of The New York Times, and an epilogue, "The Waterloo Dispatch," by Reginald Colby. Fifteen realistic black and white illustrations are reproduced from engravings by military artist Edouard Detaille (1848–1912).
Binding: Quarter dark green grained calf and green marbled paper–covered boards with gilt lettering on spine, book design by Reynard Biemiller.
