The Magazine of Art was most extravagant, claiming that the books was 'one of the prettiest, quaintest, most engaging little books imaginable'; in their critic's opinion Kate had become a 'fairy godmother': If Miss Greenaway had done no more than Mother Goose, she would yet have done enough. Her place among nursery superstitions will be an honourable and good one for many and many a year." (Rodney Engen. Kate Greenaway A Biography, p.81).Schuster & Engen 140 (1b). Thomson 138c.
