Fair. 1859. Map. The original Western United States map drawn by Gouverneur Kemble Warren, extracted from the Pacific railway surveys reports, Volume XI. The map has numerous fold splits with loss up to half an inch wide at the folds, with basic archival tape repairs to many folds on the upper half. It could use more repair and would be suitable for linen backing. The upper left corner fold section was completely detached but is repaired. Binding edge is rough. Some fold toning and light toning to the sheet as a whole. Photos available upon request. Lieutenant Warren's map was the impressive final result of the massive 1850s government railroad surveys of the West. This map was the most comprehensive to date for the Western United States, with detailed topography in regions covered by the surveys. Wagner-Camp 266c. ; 46" x 48" . (Inventory #: 011453)
