Red decoratively stamped binding with bright gilt imprint has rubbed surfaces and pieces of spine missing. Small bookseller's label on rear pastedown. The clean hand-colored map measures 19 1/2" x 29" and is in very good condition. The map only features the southern half of what was generally published as a full sheet measuring 41" or 42", but the top edge is neatly trimmed. An inset shows the Alton and St. Louis region, and prairies, swamps, and railroads are marked. John Mason Peck, one of the map contributors, traveled Illinois as a Methodist preacher and wrote comprehensive early travel guides of the state. ; 5 3/4" x 3 1/2" . (Inventory #: 011496)
