Memphis. Very Good. 1863. Pamphlet. A general order from Major General Richard J. Oglesby announcing his resignation. Folded one-sheet with two pages printed, light foxing. Richard J. Oglesby was commander of the Left Wing 16th Army Corps at Tennesee from April to July 1863. In 1864, 1872, and 1884 he was elected governor of Illinois and also served as a United States Senator. In October 1862 he had been wounded at the Battle of Corinth and here cites "continual pain, resulting from physical infirmity" as the reason for his resignation and commends the troops for their courage at Corinth.
