Spine cocked, one uneven signature. Bumped and rubbed corners and edges. Light soiling on edges and endpapers, margin edge dampstain on some pages. The first free endpaper bears the signature of "the Father of the American Cartoon" Thomas Nast as "Th: Nast 1885." A sticker on the front pastedown notes Nast's signature and covers up some other handwriting. Elizabeth Custer supported herself through writing after her husband General George Armstrong Custer's death.
