A post-Civil War atlas of New York state with all the New York counties, the City of New York (includes Jersey City, Brooklyn and part of Queens), and Rail Road, Geological, and Meteorological maps of New York, along with a 16 page Classified Business Directory of New York City at the rear. The New York City map showing streets in Manhattan as far north as 155th Street; north of that only the Deaf & Dumb Institute and Spuyten Duyvel (sic) are indicated. Grand Central Depot was yet to be built by Cornelius Vanderbilt (1871), but the Staten Island Ferry is shown, as well as the Jersey City and Christopher Street ferries & ferries to Brooklyn. This period just following the War was one of accelerating development and industry for the City and the State.The Business Directory lists New York city products and enterprises from Architects, Artificial Limbs, Bankers & Brokers and Bank Note Engravers through to Steamship Companies, Tea Importers & Dealers and Wine Importers.Large 4to, , 28pp of color maps,  Classified Directory. Dark brown gilt buckram, with gilt title at front board; blind stamped title at rear board. Spine lacking, boards rubbed & detached, text block intact. Sounds worse than it is; needs new spine & corners, then it will be a very good copy. Maps with normal age toning mostly at margins, small tear affects the title page and key map (only in margin).
