The end papers are silk with a matching silk placement ribbons sewn-in at the head of each spine. All three edges of the text blocks are in gilt. Both volumes are small quartos measuring 10 3/8 7 1/4 inch. Volume I contains 294 pages while Volume II contains 593 pages. Illustrated with black and white sketches by John Groth and with an introduction by Henry Steele Commager.
