Portfolio of six original lithographs printed in colors by Pol Rab, with brief preface by RIP, of the "Célèbres Chiens Modernes" Ric and Rac, a pair of famous French cartoon terriers, the artwork aimed at adults, with one image depicting the two dogs looking up a woman's skirt. The lithographs with some soiling and minor staining, especially to margins, images clean and bright; one with one-inch tear to lower margin, all with tack holes to corners. Folio. Orig. boards portfolio, contents loose as issued. Some scuffing and minor staining to boards. Paris (Éditions André) n.d. (circa 1930). Pol Rab was a well-known French avant-garde artist who also created illustrations for advertisements, sheet music, and theater posters in early 20th century France. Ric and Rac became popular around the 1920s, and their likenesses showed up on such varied items as salt and pepper shakers, porcelain figures, and even sterling silver jewelry.
