Bergen, Norway: Kristian Espedal, 2015. First Edition. Paperback. Fine. Illustrated throughout, largely in color. [Bergen, Norway]: Kristian Espedal, 2015. First edition, #47 of 100 copies signed by Espedal. The first collection of the haunting and immersive paintings of Norwegian vocalist Kristian "Gaahl" Espedal (b.1975), issued in conjunction with an exhibition at USF Verftet in Bergen. Described as "the evil face of black metal" for his assault convictions, controversial political beliefs, and dark aura on stage, the former Gorgoroth frontman came out in 2008, marking only the second instance of a high-profile metal musician publicly identifying as gay - after Rob Halford - and eliciting a considerable backlash from the far right circles with which he had been associated. Amidst it all, Gaahl has remained steadfast in his belief in "honesty without compromise," an approach clearly reflected in his artwork. Original pictorial paper wrappers. A fine copy. (Inventory #: 64313)
