Inserted in Volume I is a letter written in 1957 from Maurice Jacks, the grandson of Brooke, presenting the book as a parting present to Rachel Goodrich, who had been a member of his staff. He also inscribed the book to her on the ffep and notes that the earlier ownership signature "E. Brooke" had been Brooke's third daughter. Bound in original red cloth, with some chipping, bumping, rubbing, and a tear along edge of spine of Volume II. Hinges tender but text block is tight. Occasional light foxing. With 12 b&w illustrations. Ownership signature of Professor Donald Reiman on each volume's front pastedown. Very good condition. Continuously paginated: 718 pages including extensive index.
