First Harper edition and the second American of Fénelon's "Abrégé des Vies des Anciens Philosophes." The first American appeared at Philadelphia in 1824. The present edition was "translated from the French of Fenelon, with notes, and a life of the author. By the Rev. John Cormack." In the Harper series The Family Library, as its no. 140.
American Imprints 41-1863. Publisher's textured charcoal-colored cloth, spine stamped in gilt. Binding lightly rubbed. Ex–social club library: 19th-century bookplate, call number on endpaper, pressure-stamp on title-page, no other markings. Very nice copy. (Inventory #: 36606)
