New York: Ballantine Books, 1953. Hardcover. Very Good -. Joe Mugnaini. #27 OF 200 COPIES ISSUED IN THIS, THE "ASBESTOS" BINDING, WHICH REPRESENTS THE TRUE 1ST INCARNATION OF "FAHRENHEIT 451". EACH OF THE 200 COPIES IS SIGNED BY RAY BRADBURY AT THE LIMITATION AND EACH IS "BOUND IN JOHN-MANVILLE QUINTERRA, AN ASBESTOS MATERIAL WITH EXCEPTIONAL RESISTANCE TO PYROLYSIS". This copy does show some wear to the boards. There's the customary soiling (almost impossible to avoid on this title) along the panels and there's also light staining to the bottom-edges (fairly innocuous at the front panel and pronounced along the rear panel). Tasteful bookplate as well to the front pastedown and very light wear to the spine crown and the front upper tip. Still though, solid and presentable. The binding is very strong and, except for the bookplate, the book is very clean internally, with no writing or markings of any kind. Octavo, illustrated by Joe Mugnaini. (Inventory #: 13115)
