The basis of two films; the first in 1919 directed by Maurice Tourneur, screenplay by Jules Furthman, starring Jack Holt, Seena Owen, Wallace Beery, and Lon Chaney. The second was released in 1940, directed by John Cromwell, screenplay by John L. Balderston, starring Fredric March, Betty Field, and Cedric Hardwick.
