Liber Fluviorum: or, River Scenery of France. Depicted in Sixty-One Line Engravings from Drawings by J.M.W. Turner, R.A.
by Biographical Sketch by Alaric A. Watts
London: Henry G. Bohn, 1857. Cloth. Near Fine. A lovely copy of the 1857 true 1st edition. Clean and Near Fine in its rich blue cloth, with decorative blindstamping and brilliant gilt-design and lettering along the panels and spine. 61 beautiful Turner engarvings (all with their original tissue guards, which have kept the plates crisp and pristine). Strong binding, bright white pages which show almost no foxing. An armorial bookplate at the front pastedown and just a touch of soiling to the front free endpaper, otherwise very clean internally. Thick quarto, all edges gilt, 336 pgs. "Descriptive letter-press" by Leitch Ritchie, biographical sketch of Turner by Alaric A. Watts. By any measure, impressive and very well-preserved. (Inventory #: 13155)
