Hanover, NH, 2008. Artist's book, one of 18 copies, each numbered and signed by the artist, Stephanie Wolff. Bound by the artist: hand-sewn with black thread, in brown textured paper wrappers with title printed in black on cream label on front panel, endpapers with pinprick design of spider web. The artist has retold the child's nursery rhyme with hand-colored illustrations as well as maps showing the routes taken by the spider on the two tries to get up the spout. Ms. Wolff notes in her Foreword that the "exact location of where the spider washed out, and a map of the garden where the waterspout was located" are included. The text is printed letterpress in Palatino, French Clarendon and Michaelangelo typefaces with assorted type elements and handcolored accents. A most charming book - elegant and humorous.
