Inscribed on front free endpaper by Barbara Ayrton, the author's dedicatee, who later chaired the British Labour Party from 1939-1940 and was a Member of Parliament from 1945-1950 (her surname changed to Ayrton-Gould upon her marriage to writer Gerald Gould). She was also the mother of artist, Michael Ayrton. She was connected to the author through the academic circles of London in which her scientist parents associated. Oblong quarto without dust jacket (as issued) in Very Good - condition. No markings to text and pages are clean. Sheet music and beautiful color illustrations throughout. Binding is strong. 55 pp. Minor/Moderate shelf wear and bumping, some rubbing and fraying to spine at head and tail. Hardcover has some rubbing to corners and a faint damp-stain on front board.
