Very good in a recent reback with the remains of the original spine strip (to include the gilt on black leather title block) and the original end sheets retained on full leather (calf) covered boards with four raised bands on the spine. A 16mo measuring 6 5/8 by 4 1/4 inches with a more recent (1952) gift inscription on the second free end page. The contents display faint marks of foxing throughout. Containing 260 pages in volume I and 308 pages in volume II retaining much of the original binding. Mackenzie was a officer in the US Navy and infamous for the execution of three sailors convicted of mutiny on board the USS Somers in 1842. He was also an author and historian publishing a number of books. Three of his titles dealt with naval heroes, Jones, Oliver H. Perry and Stephen Decatur.
