Guillaume became a leading caricaturist and poster artist during the Belle Époque. His art was greatly influenced by the work of one of the preeminent poster painters, Jules Chéret.This book is a collection of 16 humorous b/w drawings depicting scenes of people playing tennis from its "inception" (Mythological time) to the present day (late 19th century). Socrates, Plato, Charlemagne, Peter the Great, Joachim Murat, empress Josephine, and many others are featured playing this sport.Moderate shelf wear. Some foxing to covers and throughout pages.
