First Edition. Very good The Jeannette was sunk by the impact of ice after being trapped for almost 2 years. De Long successfully abandoned ship and he reached the Lena Delta. The area was unpopulated and De Long and his party died of exposure and starvation. The following year this journal was recovered and published by his widow. The expedition "...established the existence of a northwestward polar drift and at the same time changed the map of the Arctic by delimiting the size of Wrangel Island."
