1906. Potter, Beatrix. London & New York: Frederick Warne & Co., (1906). [Title and copyright pages constitute the inside panels of the wallet.] Original light grey-green panorama-style wallet book with cover pictorial onlay. First Edition of this ultimate cat-and-mouse story, each teasing the other (the mouse sports a green jacket and a pink bowtie). MISS MOPPET is one of only two Beatrix Potter books that first appeared in this fold-out concertina-style wallet format (the other being THE STORY OF A FIERCE BAD RABBIT, likewise published at the end of 1906). It was not until 1916 that it came out in the format of a regular book.~This copy is in the preferred state (believed to be one month earlier), with "London & New York" on the back of the wallet (rather than "New York & London"). Condition is near-fine: there is very little external wear, with the vulnerable silver tab-and-slot device in better-than usual condition; some page hinges show light wear but they all remain solid (these hinges are notoriously fragile, since they are 360-degree hinges in a children's book). Rather scarce in this condition. Linder p. 426; Quinby 11.
