Passed in 1700, the 1698 "Act for the More Effectual Suppression of Piracy" (11 Will. 3 c. 7) revised the laws treating piracy for the first time since 1536. It stated that pirates could be tried outside of England, dispensed with juries and established piracy as a capital offense. The acts of 1715 and 1745, were revisions of the original act. Bibliographically distinct, these two items are printings of session laws issued under general title pages beginning Anno Regni Georgii Regis Magna Britanniae, Franciae, & Hiberniae, Primo and Anno Regni Georgii II.
