Buena Vista, Cuba, 1899. Very Good. Albumen photograph. 7.25" x 4". Mounted on thick card. Tiny tack holes in the corner, a bit faded, about very good. Image of the 64 year old former Confederate General and Governor of Virginia in uniform and on horseback, with a horse and buggy, men on horseback, and tents in the background. Ink and pencil notes on the verso indicating the photograph of Lee was taken in Buena Vista, Cuba on February 10, 1899, with the ownership signature (presumably of the photographer) of M. D. Whitney of the 7th Army Corps. Lee, the nephew of Robert E. Lee, was appointed Consul General to Cuba in 1896,. When war was declared, he was one of four former Confederate generals who joined the Army, and commanded the 7th Army Corps. (Inventory #: 411037)
