Bound volume of weekly newspaper includes accounts of the visit to New York of Charles Dickens, including an account of a ball in his honor, a poem by Walter Whitman: "Ambition", a song: "The Temperance Fireman", letters from Cooper on libel, on the Effingham Matter, and on the pioneers of Cooperstown, an account of the murder trial of John C. Colt, a concrete poem "Farewell to the Bottle" in the shape of a bottle, Abigail Folsom's appeal for the right of petition in marriage, which was received "...with a shout of laughter..." Whitman's defense of Dickens, "Boz and Democracy", an account of the Fox Talbot method of photography in England, and many other articles, poems, and stories.
