HURD, CLEMENT. HURD,CLEMENT. TOWN. NY: William R. Scott, (1939). 8vo (7 1/4 x 8 1/4"), pictorial boards, slightest bit of cover soil, near Fine. First and likely only edition. This is a charming panorama depicting life in a town, featuring 14 color lithographed panels in Hurd's characteristic bold, simple style (Hurd was the illustrator of "Goodnight Moon"), reminiscent of Alexxandra Exters panoramas. There is one page of text about a little boy and girl's life in the city, where they live. Deliberately short, it was meant to stimulate the imagination and be the basis for a story that children would embellish themselves. There is a companion piece titled "Country". See Bader p. 221-222 who comments on the influence of Soviet children's books and Japanese screen art that can be seen in this book. Rare.
