Boston, 1884. Two volumes. xii,440; x,[441]-911pp., plus twenty-four plates and four folding maps. Illus. Frontispiece portrait in each volume. Large, thick octavo. Original publisher's sheep. Hinges of first volume cracked, folding map at rear of first volume detached. Faint dampstain at head of gutter in second volume. Overall very good. An interesting account of the Jeannette's voyage to the Arctic region, in the rare original publisher's sheep. A mixed set, with a later issue of the first volume. "The 'Jeannette' sailed from San Francisco in 1879, calling at Bering Sea ports. She went adrift in ice near Herald Island in November, and after 19 months, was crushed and sank, northeast of the New Siberian Islands. Among the crew members who reached the Lena River delta in Siberia, De Long and eleven others perished" - Ricks. RICKS, p.82. TOURVILLE 1260 (Inventory #: WRCAM50749)
