[Photo album]: Post-Korean War era, circa late 1950s
Near Fine. Oblong folio. Screwbound. Green paper gilt over boards. Contains 167 gelatin silver snapshots. Various sizes, mostly about 4.5" x 3.5". Perhaps a couple of dozen images lacking otherwise near fine. We speculate from the context that some of the missing images could possibly have been risque in nature. Album very likely kept by an American serviceman serving in South Korea in the early aftermath of the cease fire. Images set on a military base, of servicemen, of wrecked American military vehicles, of signs and the area of the Demilitarized Zone, scenes in Seoul, village scenes, a few parade scenes of Korean civilians, images of tanks in formation, planes, Korean children, and near the end, many images of Korean dancing girls, many in slightly scanty costumes, entertaining and dancing with American servicemen, several others are "girlfriend" shots: well-dressed and attractive Korean women relaxing or posing, both with and without American soldiers in social gatherings. After several such pages, the last few pages have had images removed, perhaps because they might have been too revealing for the homefront. Nevertheless a pleasing album set in the early days after the Korean conflict. (Inventory #: 411199)
