Black lettering on white labels, at front cover and spine. This is the first edition of the play by James Joyce. The story is related the story of "The Dead", from Joyce short story collection "The Dubliners". Upon its publication, the play was rejected by Yeats for production at the Abbey Theatre, in Dublin. The play was not produced until 1970, under Harold Pinter's direction, at the Mermaid Theatre. The work was often compared to and seemed to be inspired by the work of Ibsen. Binding with light smudges, scratches and soiling to front and back boards. Rubbing along hinges and at head & tail of spine, with some sunning. Corners lightly bumped and rubbed. Label on spine, with a closed tear. Interior with some spotting at interior front and back covers. Starting at p.10, p.90. & p.123. Binding in overall good-, interior in overall good to good+.
