Limited edition, one of 200 copies. 172 tipped-in hand-printed illustrations in black and white and in colors (stencil illustrations) , plus 61 tipped-in paper samples depict the paper making processes and the materials required. It was compiled after visits to paper-making villages and towns scattered throughout the two areas of Japan. Volume I covers the Suruga province where the author made his sketches, surviving the initial suspicions of a stranger by the villagers. Slight nicks to upper corner backstrip of Vol. II portfolio.
