Pittsburgh in Progress produced and presented by Kaufmann's, ca. 1947
by Mitchell & Ritchey, Architects. Kaufmann's Department Store, Pittsburgh. Wallace Richards and Park H. Martin, consultants
Pittsburgh: Kaufmann's Department Store, 1947. Paperback. Very Good. No date, ca. 1947 from internal evidence, oblong quarto, wraps, measures approx. 12 x 9 inches, unpaginated, ca. 20 pp., illustrated in black and white. VG with some tanning to one of the pages, uncommon. The architects present a future vision of Pittsburgh, with specific recommendations for the downtown vicinity as well as various neighborhoods including the Hill District, North Side, South Side, Herron Hill, Panther Hollow, Negley Run, and includes a futuristic vision of a flying saucer-like restaurant suspended over Mt. Washington. Although many of these projects never materialized, it is interesting to compare this 70 year old study of Pittsburgh with the realities of Pittsburgh of today. RARE.
