Joannis Shanahan (most likely Bishop John Shanahan of the Harrisburg, PA Catholic Diocese, 1899-1916). Pages clean and bright with no foxing or age toning. Small piece out of bottom outer margin corner of leaf 1-2 of Tomus Quintus.. Brown mottled leather/boards. 6 raised bands with gilt decoration and lettering. Decorative title pages with red/black lettering and bw illus. (8) + 337; and (8) + 196. Text in Latin. Barbosa was a prolific Portuguese writer on canon law. His work included dictionary-type surveys of the legal elements. His works fill at least 30 volumes. They show intimate acquaintance with authors, sources, and controversial questions. Two volumes in the same book.
