Court martialed a few months earlier for striking a fellow officer, Commodore Perry reacts to the pamphlet just published by that officer - "Serious Charges against Captain Oliver H. Perry" - he declines to publish a reply to the pamphlet which was written by " a worthless fellow, whom misconduct & impertinence brought upon himself a chastizement …containing many falsehoods and much distortion of the truth …" A year later, the two dueled!
