A good and usable set, fairly attractive. Front hinges starting on both volumes and now repaired with paper tape, contents bright, small marks of discoloration at heels of spines, private bookplates to front pastedowns, some pencil notations to rear free endpapers. A well regarded later work by Van Rensselaer: "She was granted an honorary doctorate by Columbia University in 1910 in recognition of her two-volume History of the City of New York in the Seventeenth Century (1909), in which she tried to give New Yorkers a new pride in their history." - ANB .
