Clean splits at top and bottom of spine fold (but not detached), modest use, otherwise very good. Includes a reprint of the essay, "Loneliness ... An American Malady," by McCullers, first published in 1949 in the New York HERALD TRIBUNE. McCullers adapted her 1946 novel for the Broadway production directed by Harold Clurman. It opened on January 5, 1950 at the Empire Theatre, where it ran for 501 performances. The cast included Ethel Waters, Julie Harris, and debuted Brandon deWilde as John Henry West. Included in this program is a separately printed insert particular to a road show production opening on Tuesday, 25 December, 1951 at the Geary Theatre in San Francisco under the direction of the Curran Theatre. This production was directed by Harold Clurman, and starred Waters, Betty Lou Holland as Frankie Addams, and Robert Mariotti as John Henry.
